Tver, Russia, May 21, 2020 – Two companies, namely Belarus’ UE Greenminer and Russia’s Intelion, have now connected their computing equipment to Rosenergoatom data centre infrastructure at the Kalinin NPP in Russia’s Tver region. Rosenergoatom is the Rosatom subsidiary charged with operating nuclear power plants.
Installation and servicing were carried out by the Kalinin NPP data centre team. The site has an uninterrupted power supply provided by a 80 MW-capacity 110/10 kW substation, which is connected directly to Kalinin NPP’s distribution infrastructure by two cable lines.
Sergey Migalin, Rosenergoatom’s Deputy DG and Economics & Finance Director, has commented: “Rosenergoatom plans to create five such infrastructure sites near its NPPs. ‘Internally’ connecting to substations has several advantages, including: an uninterrupted power supply to the platform, a high-quality power supply to IT and communications equipment, the guarantee of the lowest wholesale prices for the electric power, and reliable security measures to protect the customer’s equipment. The total capacity of the [planned] infrastructure sites exceeds 240 MW.”
Rosenergoatom has given commercial customers the option of connecting both their data centre containers (DCC) and Rosenergoatom-manufactured DCCs to the Kalinin infrastructure site – the first of its kind. The site has an area of 2 hectares, a total power capacity of 30 MW, and the means to accommodate up to 30 container data centres. Each container is designed to accommodate 300 to 500 customer computers collectively using up to 1 MW.
Certified Rosenergoatom data centre containers are equipped with a gas-based fire extinguishing system, a system designed to safely provide an interrupted power supply with which to operate the customer’s equipment, as well as a cooling system, an access control system, and a CCTV system.
