October 14, 2019 - GE Steam Power starts turbine-generator manufacturing for Hanhikivi-1 NPP with generator rotor forging at the Japan Steel Works facilities in Muroran, Japan.
This marks the start of major equipment components manufacturing for Hanhikivi-1 NPP, Finland.

Turbine-generator is one of the main components of an NPP project. Manufacturing begins on October 14, 2019 with the generator rotor ingot melting start, followed by ingot forging October 25, 2019.

RAOS Project, the Supplier of Hanhikivi-1 NPP, signed contract with Alstom Power Systems, currently part of GE Steam Power, in 2016. As per the contract, GE Steam Power is to deliver its Arabelle steam turbine, the generator, and general part of equipment of Turbine Island for the new NPP in Finland.

Earlier in September 2019, inspection conducted jointly by Fennovoima Oy, customer and owner of Hanhikivi-1 NPP, RAOS Project Oy, and GE Steam Power at the Japan Steel Works facilities confirmed all necessary preparations were done and everything was ready to start generator rotor manufacturing.

About the project
The Hanhikivi-1 project includes the construction of a single-unit NPP featuring a modern Russian-designed VVER-1200 Generation III+ reactor with a capacity of 1200 MW.
The Finnish project company Fennovoima Oy is the customer, owner and operator of the future NPP. The general supplier, according to the EPC contract (Engineering-Procurement-Construction) signed with Fennovoima Oy in December 2013, is RAOS Project Oy, a subsidiary of REIN JSC (part of Rosatom State Corporation).
Under the EPC contract, the Russian party shall supply a licensed, functional and operational NPP on a turnkey basis.
Hanhikivi-1 NPP construction will be carried out on the Hanhikivi Peninsula in the Finnish region of Northern Ostrobothnia. To date, the project is at the stage of licensing and preparatory works are under way at the NPP construction site.
