Today, in Moscow the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran and Rosatom signed a memorandum of understanding on nuclear materials transportation.

The Memorandum was signed by Mohammad Javad Zarif, Minister of Foreign Affairs, from the Iranian side, and Alexey Likhachev, Chief Executive Officer of Rosatom, from the Russian side, within the framework of the high level meeting between Hassan Rouhani, President of the Islamic Republic of Iran and Vladimir Putin, President of the Russian Federation.


The document envisages, in particular, the creation and maintenance of the necessary infrastructure in Iran and Russia, as well as the obtainment of licenses and permits for nuclear materials transportation (including by the Caspian sea) as part of the cooperation between the two countries in the peaceful uses of atomic energy.

The Memorandum especially emphasizes the intention of the parties to strictly comply with the international safety standards related to the nuclear material management.
