10–14 February 2020, Vienna, Austria – The third International Conference on Nuclear Security: Sustaining and Strengthening Efforts (ICONS 2020) was held on the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) platform.
Over 1,600 experts from 134 countries graced the event. The Russian delegation comprised the representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, the State Atomic Energy Corporation “Rosatom” and its organizations, the Federal Service for the Supervision of Environment, Technology and Nuclear Management as well as the Federal Customs Service of Russia.
The ministerial segment of the conference was committed to national statements of delegation leaders from the IAEA member countries on priorities and achievements in nuclear security. Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation Mikhail Ulyanov delivered the Russian address to the International Organizations in Vienna.
The technical and scientific part of the conference entailed over 70 events of different formats, including high-level policy discussions, technical sessions, etc. The State Atomic Energy Corporation “Rosatom” experts delivered 12 speeches on relevant keynotes of nuclear security.
The IAEA Secretariat organized an exhibition where IAEA member states and individual governmental and non-governmental organizations. had an opportunity to present their developments and achievements in nuclear security. The industry-wide display stand of ROSATOM presented Russian approaches to developing the system of physical protection of nuclear facilities along with the information concerning perspectives of the Rosatom Technical Academy to educate and train foreign specialists in nuclear security.
After the conference, the ministerial declaration which is to become a base of IAEA Action Plan on Nuclear Safety 2022-2025, was taken.
