The Expert Committee for State Environmental Expert Review has approved the support materials for a nuclear energy license required to deploy the facility for the project called Small Modular Reactor Nuclear Power Plant Construction with a RITM-200N reactor of at least 55 MWe in the Ust-Yansky District of the Republic of Sakha, Yakutia.
In its approval issued by Decree No. 546/GEE of 20.04.2022 of the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources, the Expert Committee confirms that the materials provided meet the environmental requirements of technical regulations and environmental legislation.
“The approval of the State Environmental Expert Review is a result of effective teamwork of several subdivisions of the Rosatom State Corporation. The next important step is to obtain the license to deploy the RITM-200N SMR NPP in the Ust-Yansky District of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia)”, said Evgeny Pakermanov, President of Rusatom Overseas.

A Russian design SMR NPP project is underway in Yakutia based on the state-of-the-art RITM-200 reactor. It incorporates many years of experience in operating small reactors on Russian nuclear icebreaker fleet vessels (more than 400 reactor-years). Six RITM reactors have so far been manufactured and installed at the three latest multi-purpose icebreakers. The on-land SMR NPP is designed to supply power to isolated energy grids or remote areas and consumers. Its features include small size and modular design coupled with a shortened construction period and high safety standards. Once constructed, the station will provide continuous and clean energy to the Kyuchus gold ore deposit mining project, one of the largest in Russia. The small modular reactor nuclear power plant in the town of Ust-Kuyga of the Ust-Yansky District of the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia) is scheduled for commissioning in 2028.
