August 30, 2022, Büyükeceli, Mersin Province, Turkey. – The installation of process equipment of the auxiliary boiler house has begun at the Akkuyu NPP Site. The equipment will ensure steam generation for the nuclear power plant units at the commissioning stage.

The works on the facility are being performed by Turkish engineers and builders of Sintek, one of the largest contracting organizations engaged in Akkuyu NPP construction. Five 150-ton boilers have already been installed. The foundation, the building frame and enclosing structures were prepared in advance. The next stage are the installation of pumps, pipelines and electrical equipment of the boiler house. In total, 175 tons of metal structures are to be installed at the site. Special boilers for the auxiliary boiler house have been manufactured at a Russian boiler equipment plant and delivered to Akkuyu NPP Site by sea.

Turkish engineers are supporting the entire process of installation operations in close cooperation with Russian specialists.

Sergei Butckikh, First Deputy Chief Executive Officer of AKKUYU NUKLEAR JSC and Director of NPP under Construction: "The construction of numerous auxiliary buildings, which will ensure uninterrupted plant operation, is being performed simultaneously at the Akkuyu NPP Site. The auxiliary boiler house is one of such facilities. Its boilers are being installed for all four units at once. An important feature of the current installation operations is that all the works are being performed exclusively by Turkish specialists. Sintek engineers show a very high level of quality at all stages of the construction, including equipment installation. Our experience in production localization at the NPP Site is yielding more and more positive results, and we plan to increase the engagement of Turkish companies at further construction stages”.

Serkan Kandemir, Construction Area Manager of Sintek, commented on the progress of the boiler house construction: "We have completed the reinforced concrete foundation works on the auxiliary boiler house, which is an important facility for Akkuyu NPP. We have completed the pit excavation and backfill, as well as equipment foundations and insulation work. At the same time, we have already started installing the mechanical part and metal structures. 5 special boilers, the key equipment of the boiler house, have already been installed. We are currently continuing assembling the steel frame of the building. Upon completion of the structure formation and equipment installation, we will deliver our works to the customer".
The implementation of the Akkuyu NPP Project, the first nuclear power plant in Turkey, continues as planned. Construction and installation works are being performed on all sections of the main and auxiliary facilities, namely four power units, onshore hydraulic engineering structures, power output system, administrative buildings, training center and NPP physical protection facilities.
